Current status of PEC

PEC is a research and development governmental institution responsible for

research and implementation of renewable energies and energy efficiency in Palestine. Its mission includes abatement of GHG emissions and clean of the environment.

In 2007, PEC followed to Palestinian energy Authority (PEA) and achieved by its chairman.

PEC Before 2007

The Palestinian Energy and Environment research Center (PEC) has been established in Jerusalem – Palestine in December 1993 by the decision of Yasser Arafat President of the Palestinian National Authority with support of SYNERGY program of the European Union (EU).  For the purposes of research, development, and raising the efficiency of using energy in the different economic sectors.

Later on in 1996 the main office was relocated in Nablus City. 

PEC had a board of trustees of 21 members elected annually out of whom 5 members form the board of directors.

In June 2000 PEC became one of the Palestinian National Authority Institutions and was followed to the ministry of industry. The minister of industry became automatically the head of board of directors.

PEC had an executive general director along with two divisions:
1) Financial and Administrative division.
2) Technical division dealing with renewable energies, environmental issues, rural electrification and Energy conservation.
