Installation of Isolated Photovoltaic Energy Sys. in Remote Areas

Due to the absence of traditional energy sources in Palestine, PEC has started encouraging the usage of renewable energy application. High initial costs of PV systems and the difficult economic situation led the Center to formulate with the State of Baden Wurttemberg a special project for PV in Palestine. The State of Baden Wurttemberg agreed to fund a program which enables PEC to install 90 PV systems in rural areas within three years. The financing will be through soft loans for periods of three to five years. PEC signed a cooperation agreement with TDC ( a credit institution) to manage the financial aspects of the project. The project will also include demonstration and training on operation and maintenance of the systems.

Questionnaires were prepared and distributed to the people in rural villages. Awareness campaigns were established on local TV stations, newspapers and on site workshops.
